Challenge
During my time at BMW Detail & Interface-Design, I was supporting the creation of the new 1 and 3 Series steering wheel design. The steering wheel is the key element in the car’s interior, which should combine ergonomics with a design language that blends harmoniously into the overall interior, while still setting new accents.
Result
From the first sketches, 3D and clay models until the final serial design, I have accompanied the process together with an experienced team of designers, engineers and model makers at BMW to not only create a new design but also to meet the challenges of technical conditions and cost specifications. The steering wheel combines a compact and accessible shape and receives an independent character through the horizontal, softly curved line.
The steering wheel has been launched in the second generation of BMW’s 1 and 3 series.
